Are Paid OnlyFans Shoutouts Worth It
A shoutout is worth it when the fans it brings return more than it cost. Clicks and subscriber counts alone cannot tell you that.
Paid shoutouts and promotion placements are one of the quickest ways to add subscribers. They are also one of the easiest ways to lose money, because the subscribers a shoutout brings can behave very differently from those who find you organically.
The wrong way to judge a shoutout
Most creators look at the number of new subscribers on the day of the shoutout and divide the price by it. That gives a cost per subscriber, and it is a useful start. It misses the part that decides profit: what those subscribers spend afterwards.
The right way, fan value against cost
For each shoutout, record the price, the new subscribers and what those subscribers spent on pay per view and tips over the following 30 and 90 days. Then compare the total with the price.
- Cost per subscriber is the price divided by new subscribers
- Thirty day value is subscription plus first month spend, per fan
- Ninety day value adds the months fans renew
- Net value is value per fan times subscribers, minus the price
A shoutout at a higher price can win on net value if its fans stay and spend. A cheap one can lose if its fans leave after the free trial.
Give every seller its own link
Use a separate tracking link for each seller and each placement. If you buy from the same seller twice, use two links, so you can see whether the second placement worked as well as the first. Without the links, you are guessing which purchase brought which fan.
Judge sellers over several placements
One placement is a sample, not a verdict. Timing, the creator's audience on that day and your own content all change the result. Buy a small number of placements from several sellers, compare net value, and then put more budget behind the sellers who return the most.
When to stop
If the net value of a seller is negative after a few placements, stop and move the budget. If the net value is positive but lower than an organic source such as Reddit, treat the shoutout as an add on and keep your hours on the stronger source.
FansMarketer includes a shoutout ledger on the Plus plan that keeps price, subscribers and fan value for every placement in one list, and suggests where to move budget. Read more on the OnlyFans promotion page.
